
Great Bay University
The establishment of the Great Bay University (GBU) is a major strategic initiative under the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. GBU is a public institution of higher learning sponsored by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, with support from the Dongguan Municipal People’s Government.
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and rooted in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), GBU aims to serve the whole nation and extend its influence globally. With a primary focus on science and engineering, GBU is characterized by excellence in fundamental sciences and strength in engineering disciplines. And GBU is dedicated to cultivating high-caliber research-oriented talents who possess a robust academic foundation, broad horizons, the unity of knowing and doing, and the integration of disciplines. GBU strives to nurture talents with creative thinking, a global view, patriotism, and the abilities to learn for life, tackle complex problems and innovate in practice. GBU is committed to developing a cohort of leaders in key technological fields and pioneers in emerging interdisciplinary frontiers. GBU works to build itself into a new type of research university that meets international standards, embraces openness and inclusiveness, and embodies distinctive characteristics of the Bay Area. GBU also aims to provide valuable experience for facilitating the free flow of scientific and technological innovation elements and promoting the coordinated development of higher education in the GBA.
Robust academic foundation, broad horizon, unity of knowing and doing, and integration of disciplines are the goals that GBU pursues. With a focus on six directions, i.e. physical sciences, advanced engineering, life sciences, information science technology, sciences, and finance management, GBU is committed to nurturing high-caliber research-oriented talents with creative thinking, a global view, patriotism, and the abilities to learn for life, tackle complex problems and innovate in practice.
